The Bull Runners of Pamplona, Spain - A Discussion of the Health Belief Model
Author: Judy D'Angelo RN, MSN ANP
The Health Belief Model has been applied to problems of predicting, explaining, and influencing behavior. The Health Belief Model proposes that people’s motivation to change their behavior is affected by their beliefs of susceptibility to a disease, severity of the disease, and the benefits of changing that behavior. This theory focuses on individuals’ attitudes and beliefs about certain health-related behaviors. This paper will also address the health belief and theoretical models of self-efficacy.Author: Judy D'Angelo RN, MSN ANP
These models fundamentally guide both our current and future understanding of health behavior as to provide a direction to medical intervention and improve patient outcomes.
